Transgender South Dakotans have met with the Governor

The Center for Equality is grateful to have met with Governor Daugaard this afternoon, Tuesday the 23rd of February. In a small conference room in the Capital, transgender people and family shared their personal stories with the Governor and explained how House Bill 1008 will negatively affect their lives if it becomes law.

“I believe the meeting went well. He was warm and personable, and wanted to be inclusive to hearing all of our stories. We are grateful that he accepted our invitation and we asked him to veto HB 1008,” said Kendra Heathscott, who was in the meeting with the Governor.

The Center for Equality would like to thank the LGBTQ community and allies across the country for showing their support for transgender South Dakotans, and thank the media for making our voices heard.
